As one of the world's leading style icons, the Duchess of Cambridge isn't afraid to experiment with the colours she wears. Prince William's wife has been spotted in practically every hue under the sun – from buttercup yellow at Wimbledon to soft cornflower blue. But there's one colour that she's never once worn – and, we can reveal, probably never will. Royal style watchers have found she has never been spotted in orange. It’s not against royal protocol to wear this shade, as the Queen has been known to sport it, so it's been assumed that Kate's wardrobe choices are down to personal preference.

However, HELLO! can reveal that the lack of orange in Kate's wardrobe is likely to be because the shade just doesn’t suit her. Colour analyst Gabriella Winters of Chromology UK explained: "I think the answer lies in DNA and Kate's awareness of how certain colours [are] less flattering compared to other colours."

She continued: "People absorb and reflect the same colours differently depending on their unique biological makeup. When a colour is placed adjacent to your face, it will reflect its wavelength onto you." Wearing the right colours can make you appear healthier, more radiant and make your eyes and hair shades 'pop'. However, the wrong ones can have the opposite effect. "Yellowish or greenish casts from too-warm colours are common, greyish or reddish casts from too-cool colours are also typical."

To prove her point, Gabriella has even mocked up an image of Kate wearing an orange coat (see above). "If you look closely, you can see a visible yellowish cast on Kate's skin when wearing that orange-red coat. This is essentially scattered orange light around her face because she could only partially absorb the temperature of this specific colour. The yellowish cast is not there when she is wearing colours that are cooler toned though," she says.
