The final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars dropped earlier this year and Star Wars fans loved it. The show brought an end to a great group of stories.

But some Star Wars fans are at a loss now. With no movies on the horizon after Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker came out late last year, what do they have to satiate their love of Star Wars

One fan thinks that the perfect follow up to The Clone Wars is the show’s chronological successor: Star Wars: Rebels. Here’s why you should watch it next if you liked The Clone Wars.

Nothing will ever take the place of the original Star Wars trilogy, but The Clone Wars animated series may be one of the most well-executed pieces of Star Wars content outside that trio of films.

The first six seasons of The Clone Wars continued the character arcs of well known, beloved characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. It also shed more light on prequel trilogy characters who didn’t get much screen time like Ki-Adi-Mundi. The show’s most notable achievement was introducing the character Ahsoka Tano, Skywalker’s padawan who quickly became a fan favorite.

The seventh season of the show was very impressive as its narrative coincided with the film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It saw a conclusion to Tano’s arc while also showing the rise of Darth Vader as well. It came out in 2020 on the Disney+ platform.

What to watch after ‘The Clone Wars’

Star Wars fans were thrilled to get more Clone Wars, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The series finished on a powerful note, but now it’s concluded and Star Wars fans are left wanting more. So where should they turn next?

They can always watch the original trilogy, of course. But there’s another animated series that picks up after The Clone Wars. It’s called Star Wars: Rebels. Here’s the show’s description from

“Star Wars Rebels, set five years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, tells the story of the Rebellion’s beginnings while the Empire spreads tyranny through the galaxy.”

The show follows a ragtag group of Rebel Alliance members who go on covert missions in an attempt to subvert the evil Empire. It even features appearances from other classic Star Wars characters like Darth Maul, Tano, and Kenobi.

What fans are saying about ‘Star Wars: Rebels’

One Star Wars fan posted to Reddit, lamenting how The Clone Wars series was at an end.  One commenter later in the thread said they were debating watching Star Wars: Rebels next because they didn’t like the show’s animation. One fan replied and begged to differ, defending the show’s integrity:

“If you want to take a break, it’s fine, but you should definitely watch Rebels at some point, and I’m speaking as someone who hated the very existence of that show a couple of years ago, but then I watched it. It starts out kind of weak (not unlike the clone wars did) but it picks up the pace on season 2, and season 3 and 4 are great.”

If this fan’s opinion is to be believed, an investment of time in the weaker earlier episodes will pay off when fans move into the show’s later years. It makes sense — some shows take some time to get their footing and let their storylines really develop. For Star Wars buffs, it seems as though watching Star Wars: Rebels is a no-brainer.
