The LOX and The Diplomats (a.k.a. Dipset) are two of New York’s most respected rap groups. They’ve both released iconic tracks and entertained audiences for over two decades, and rappers from both groups have made names for themselves as solo artists.

The LOX and Dipset went head to head in a ‘Verzuz’ battle

The LOX and Dipset competed in a Verzuz battle for the ages in August 2021. Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch of The LOX shared the stage with Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, and Freekey Zekey as they performed some of their greatest hits.

In classic New York fashion, rappers from both groups took jabs at each other and their musical accomplishments — all in good fun, of course. At one point, Jadakiss ridiculed The Diplomats with a simple read. “These n—-s don’t know what Grammys look like,” he said. “They know what grams look like!”

The LOX and the Grammy Awards

While Jadakiss boasted about The Diplomats not having any Grammy Awards to their name, the same can be said for The LOX.

The LOX has no group nominations for Grammys. Instead, the only Grammy nomination belongs to Jadakiss as a solo artist: he was nominated at the 2005 Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his hit single “Why?” with Anthony Hamilton.

While The LOX never won any Grammys as a group, they did create some Grammy-winning music. They wrote the hit single “It’s All About the Benjamins” for their friend Sean “Diddy” Combs in 1997. Jadakiss penned Diddy’s verse on the song on Diddy’s debut album No Way Out, which won the Grammy for Best Rap Album that same year.

The LOX is credited as a featured artist on “It’s All About the Benjamins” despite only Jadakiss and Sheek Louch having guest verses. In addition, all three group members rap on the No Way Out track “I Got the Power.”

Dipset at the Grammy Awards

Just like The LOX, The Diplomats don’t have any Grammy Awards or nominations together as a group. But individual group members have received recognition from The Recording Academy.

In the late ’90s and early ’00s, Cam’ron was a working solo artist in addition to recording music with Dipset. His third studio album Come Home with Me was certified Platinum with over one million copies sold.

The lead single was “Oh Boy,” a collaboration between Cam’ron and his Dipset groupmate Juelz Santana. The song received a nod for Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group at the 2003 Grammy Awards. Cam’ron and Santana were nominated in the same category again a year later for “Dipset (Santana’s Town),” the only single from Santana’s debut album From Me to U.
