The British royal family is in a much better place then it was even a year ago. At the time, rumors were swirling about a rift between Prince William and Prince Harry. The brothers who had been close all of their lives were suddenly divided due to their different approaches to royal life.

When Prince Harry married Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, that divide apparently grew even more. As Meghan struggled to cope in the spotlight with the constant racist and sexist rhetoric being spewed toward her by the British public and press, Prince William and the rest of the royal family remained silent. It didn’t help that Meghan and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge never truly bonded.

Now, amid Megxit, the Sussexes and the Cambridges are in a much better place, but the royal family is reportedly terrified about the release of Meghan and Prince Harry’s new book, Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry didn’t feel supported in the royal family

Though they struggled in the spotlight, Meghan and Prince Harry ultimately left the royal family because they did not feel supported by the other senior royals.

“Meghan said Harry made it crystal clear that they could not function in good faith under the current system…and that if it wasn’t revised and updated to their liking, they would have no other choice than to break from the royal family,” the insider explained to Daily Mail. “She said no one took his pleas seriously, so they had to take the issue into their own hands. This was about protecting the family and doing right by Princess Diana. She said the British tabloids have haunted Harry since childhood and should have been kicked out of the media pool long ago. The system is broken and Harry wanted to fix it. She said he needed to take a stand and now they are doing it together.”

The royals were seemingly shocked when the Sussexes announced Megxit, but they refused to shift their stance regarding their stiff upper lip policy.

Prince William and Prince Harry have been repairing their relationship

With Prince Harry and Meghan living in Los Angeles outside of the royal family along with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it has allowed the royal brothers to repair their relationship.

“There have been clearly some quite major rifts in that relationship, but things have got better and I know that William and Harry are in touch on the phone,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “They have done video calls together, they have done a lot of family birthdays and I think with Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone and get back in touch.”

However, once Finding Freedom is released, the royal family is reportedly terrified all of that work to rebuild and repair will unravel.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Reportedly Miss Prince Harry More Than Meghan Markle But Here’s Why It’s Normal

The royal family is terrified Prince William will be depicted as the ‘bad guy’ in ‘Finding Freedom

Royal experts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s new book, Finding Freedom is set to be released on Aug. 11. The book will reportedly showcase Meghan and Harry’s perspective on royal life and why they left. However, the royals are afraid it might do a lot of damage.

“They are worried William especially will be portrayed in a bad light,” a source told The Sun. “This sort of family spat shouldn’t be out there in public. This shouldn’t happen to future monarchs. The book could be the most damaging thing to the Royal Family since Prince Diana’s interview on Panorama with Martin Bashir. The concern is it will somehow paint [William] as an unfeeling baddie against kind and philanthropic Harry and Meghan. The aides are privately worried about it. Unsympathetic, unfeeling and unsupportive are the words being used but of course no one knows exactly what’s in it.”
