Every so often, a hidden gem related to Sister Wives star Kody Brown will reveal itself. This time, it’s a lost cringeworthy commercial made to sell one of his Las Vegas homes.

‘Sister Wives’ star Kody Brown tried to use his celebrity to sell Vegas home

Between 2018 and 2019, the Brown family of TLC’s Sister Wives decided to sell their four Las Vegas homes and move to Flagstaff, Arizona. To finance their move, the clan needed to expedite the process.

On the series, it was suggested Janelle Brown was the realtor for the homes. However, the Brown family apparently employed outside help to get the homes off the market. In a 2019 video shared on Robyn Brown’s Instagram, Kody is seen in a cringe-worthy commercial using his celebrity to push a sale of the home located at 4039 Wild Eagle Circle.

In the clip, Kody stands with realtor Tom Love. Love uses the success of Sister Wives to entice viewers to tour the home.

Subsequently, Kody tells viewers, “Love to see you there,” suggesting he would be at the open house. Did the trick work to sell Christine Brown’s house?

Per Distractify, Christine’s house was the last to sell of all four homes. To begin, the home was listed at $675,000. It discounted in increments until its final listing price of $574,900, finally selling for $535,000 in September 2019. It is now reportedly worth over $800K.

Was this the first time Kody Brown used his ‘Sister Wives’ celebrity to promote outside projects?

Sister Wives star Kody Brown has used his connection to the TLC series to generate income via other side hustles throughout the series’ 18-season run. Let’s look into some of his most notable gigs.

In 2017, the family launched My Sisterwife’s Closet, an online clothing and accessories boutique. Robyn Brown, Kody’s fourth wife, spearheaded the idea, which was also connected to wives Christine, Meri, and Janelle Brown.

The jewelry didn’t take off as hoped, and although the website remains active, a pop-up reads, “We are busy updating the store for you. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed!” It continues to sell products.

Kody also generates income from his connection to Sister Wives via Cameo, where he offers personalized videos. Kody’s videos start at $149. According to the website, Kody will focus on birthday or graduation greetings, pep talks, roasts, advice, or he will answer fan questions.

According to a 2009 story by E! News, reality show television producer Terence Michael explained families featured on shows such as Sister Wives are paid around 10 percent of a show’s per-episode budget. Therefore, if the series spends anywhere from $125,000 to $400,000 per episode, the family makes between $25,000 and $40,000 per episode.

In some seasons, the family generated upwards of 14 episodes, plus tell-all episodes and look-back installments. Each season could potentially generate somewhere in the ballpark of $350K on the low end to $560K on the high.

The series has been on TLC for 18 seasons, netting the Brown family well over $6M on paper. Divided by 5, if this was the case within the family, each adult netted around $1.2 thus far.

Remember the keyword family in this discussion because only the five principals—Kody, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn —were reportedly paid, not their children. It is unclear how the money was divided between the series stars.

Before three of his four wives left the polygamist clan, the family was paid through a company called Kody Brown Family Entertainment, LLC. Since leaving the family, Christine, Janelle, and Meri Brown have each formed their own LLCs, and Kody remains on one with Robyn alone.

Sister Wives will air Season 19 sometime this year on TLC. The network has yet to reveal an official debut date.
