Robert Pattinson has done plenty of movies to prove that he is a talented actor. But, despite that, it’s hard to forget the movies that first made him a household name. Pattinson was thrust into superstardom shortly after he was cast in Twilight and the four subsequent films that comprised the Twilight Saga: New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Of course, when Pattinson was cast as brooding vampire, Edward Cullen, he had no idea just how intense the experience would wind up being. And he wasn’t the only Twilight cast member who was blindsided by the fact the films would eventually turn into a global phenomenon. In fact, his fellow co-star, Kristen Stewart, originally thought that filming a sequel for the first film was an absurd concept because she didn’t realize what an enormous fan base Twilight had.

Robert Pattinson had no idea how big the ‘Twilight’ movies would be until he attended Comic-Con 2008

But, both Stewart and Pattinson had a complete change of heart when they attended Comic-Con back in 2008 to promote Twilight. The crowd of screaming fans was so large and enthusiastic that they both began to realize just what they’d signed up for. In fact, in an interview with NPR, Pattinson likened the experience to being in the extremely popular boy band, the Backstreet Boys.

The cast member compared the experience to being in the Backstreet Boys

“I mean, it was – it’s funny because it was so sudden,” Pattinson shared about the instant fame Twilight bought him. “I mean, it was – I think I’d done the movie, and then I’d gone – I was in LA just doing auditions and stuff. And then we did Comic-Con in 2008. And it was literally from having absolutely no one recognize you whatsoever – we went into the big Hall H in San Diego – and it was like being in Backstreet Boys just, like, immediately.

How Pattinson dealt with the fame The ‘Twilight’ Saga brought him

Pattinson continued on to describe how intense that day at Comic-Con was. “I mean, like, from – we walked through the door, and it was just down the rabbit hole,” the Twilight star shared. “But it was so sudden it didn’t feel real to me at all. I mean, it was like – and I think – I’m really happy I had that first kind of brush with it all like that because it seemed so surreal that I felt like I was – I’d gone to pay to see a show of people all screaming and crazy.”

The Harry Potter alum continued on to share that the fame was so sudden that it actually helped him not to feel immense pressure throughout filming the Twilight movies. In fact, he said that he felt pretty removed from the intense fame. “And it was like, there’s nothing to do with me whatsoever,” Pattinson shared. And so – I mean, it kind of – and I kind of always felt like that the whole way through it. I mean, it just – it felt so sudden that I didn’t feel the weight of responsibility with it at all.”

How will Pattinson handle his newfound Batman fame?

We can certainly see why Pattinson compared his experience to being in a popular boy band. After all, he did have to deal with screaming teenagers for years on end. These days, Pattinson has joined another huge franchise with his upcoming portrayal of Batman. It’ll be interesting to see how he copes with the fame he’s sure to acquire from it. Furthermore, it’ll be fascinating to see how he reflects on that experience in a few years’ time.
